How to Install and Use LinearX LEAP 5 on 64-bit Windows
LinearX LEAP 5 is a powerful software tool for loudspeaker design and analysis. However, it was developed for 32-bit Windows and has not been updated to support 64-bit platforms. This article will show you how to install and use LEAP 5 on 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 10, and Windows 11, using a test-signed USB driver for the license key.
What You Need
A computer running 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 10, or Windows 11.
A LinearX LEAP 5 installation CD or a copy of the setup files.
A LinearX LEAP 5 USB license key (dongle).
A test-signed USB driver for the dongle, which you can download from this forum thread.
A bit of patience and willingness to follow the instructions carefully.
Step 1: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
The main obstacle to installing LEAP 5 on 64-bit Windows is that the USB driver for the dongle is not certified and digitally signed by Microsoft. To bypass this restriction, you need to disable driver signature enforcement on your system. This is a temporary state that will be reset at the next boot, so you will need to repeat this step every time you want to use LEAP 5.
To disable driver signature enforcement, follow these steps:
Click the Start button, right-click the power icon, and select Restart while holding down the Shift key. This will restart your computer into a recovery mode.
Choose Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, then Startup Settings. Then click Restart to reboot into the available startup settings.
After the reboot, press F7 to disable driver signature enforcement. This will finally restart Windows with the driver signature enforcement disabled.
Step 2: Install the Test-Signed USB Driver
Once you have disabled driver signature enforcement, you can install the test-signed USB driver for the dongle as follows:
Plug in the dongle to a USB port on your computer.
Go to the Device Manager (Start, search for Device Manager) and find the LXK License Key under USB License Keys.
Right-click and select Update Driver.
Choose Browse my computer for driver software.
Choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
Click Have Disk and browse to the folder where you downloaded the test-signed USB driver.
Select LXK License Key (Test Signed) and click Next.
Ignore any warnings about installing an unsigned driver and click Install anyway.
Wait for the driver installation to finish and close the Device Manager.
Step 3: Install LinearX LEAP 5
Now that you have installed the test-signed USB driver, you can proceed to install LEAP 5 on your system. Follow these steps:
Insert the LEAP 5 installation CD into your CD drive or copy the setup files to a folder on your hard drive.
Run Setup.exe as administrator (right-click and select Run as administrator).
Follow the installation wizard and accept the default settings. Ignore any errors about missing files or registry keys and click OK or Ignore when prompted.
Wait for the installation to finish and close the setup program.
Step 4: Run LinearX LEAP 5
You are now ready to run LEAP 5 on your 64-bit Windows system. Follow these steps:
Make sure that your dongle is plugged in and that you have disabled driver signature enforcement as described in Step 1.
Navigate to the folder where you installed LEAP 5 ( aa16f39245
